DUBAI – International travel service provider Trip.com has entered a strategic partnership with global digital payments firm Checkout.com, aiming to simplify and enhance the payment experience for travellers worldwide.

The collaboration is set to support Trip.com’s continued global expansion while delivering faster and more reliable transactions for users booking trips online.

The agreement reflects a growing demand for seamless digital payment systems as the travel industry scales in an increasingly connected economy. By integrating Checkout.com’s infrastructure, Trip.com is looking to remove friction from the booking journey and improve overall customer satisfaction.

Global reach

Trip.com, part of Trip.com Group, operates in 24 languages across 39 countries and regions, offering services ranging from hotel reservations and flights to car rentals and attraction bookings. The platform’s global footprint makes efficient and localised payment processing critical to its growth strategy.

Through this partnership, Trip.com will introduce digital card payment services in key markets including Saudi Arabia, Japan and the United Kingdom, with further expansion planned across North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Checkout.com’s local acquiring capabilities are expected to improve payment acceptance rates while lowering operational costs.

Payment innovation

The collaboration marks a significant step in Trip.com’s evolving payment strategy. By leveraging Checkout.com’s modular technology, the company can tailor payment experiences to specific markets, offering travellers greater convenience and flexibility.

Both companies are also exploring the integration of additional payment methods beyond traditional card payments. These include e-wallets and bank transfers, catering to diverse consumer preferences across regions. The adoption of Standalone 3DS authentication is already enhancing transaction security and performance, while further solutions such as secure card storage and identity verification are under consideration.

Growth strategy

Executives from both organisations highlighted the importance of payment efficiency in driving global travel growth. Wang Zhe, Vice President of Trip.com Group, noted that fast and reliable payment systems are essential to meeting user expectations and supporting international expansion.

Brian Sze, President of Checkout.com Asia Pacific, described the partnership as a move beyond transaction processing, focusing on building a performance-driven payment strategy that reduces friction and supports the broader tourism ecosystem.
